Over 11 years teaching high school and university mathematics, including AP Calculus AB & BC
With over 11 years of classroom and university teaching experience, I have taught everything from Algebra to AP Calculus AB and BC at the high school level, as well as Calculus at the university level. I work with students of all ability levels — from those rebuilding foundational skills to those preparing for college-level mathematics.
I earned my B.S. in Mathematics from The College of Idaho and my M.S. in Mathematics Education from Boise State University. My graduate research focused on how students learn Calculus, with particular attention to developing deeper understanding rather than surface-level procedures.
My goal is simple: help students understand why mathematics works so that solving problems becomes more intuitive, confidence grows, and real progress follows.
In addition to teaching mathematics, I've developed robotics and life-skills curricula that emphasize hands-on learning and real-world problem solving. I enjoy connecting mathematical concepts to practical applications so students can see how the ideas they learn extend beyond the classroom.
Based in Star, Idaho (Boise area), I provide personalized one-on-one online tutoring for students locally and beyond. Whether a student needs to catch up, stay ahead, prepare for an exam, or master a difficult concept, my goal is to build confidence and independent problem-solving skills — not simply improve grades.
How I Teach
My classroom experience includes inquiry-based learning, direct instruction, differentiated instruction, and student-centered approaches. In practice, that means:
- Understanding over memorization — Students learn why a method works so they can apply it in new situations.
- Patience and clarity — No judgment, no rushing. We go at the pace that produces results.
- Adapted to the student — Lessons are adjusted to each student’s current understanding and learning needs.
- Practical focus — Homework help, test preparation, or deeper concept work — whatever is most useful right now.
Why Online?
Online tutoring removes commute time and lets us use a shared digital whiteboard effectively. Students get the same one-on-one attention as in-person, with the added convenience of joining from home. It’s also easier to keep a consistent schedule week to week.
